Before they lived in our imaginations, they really lived!
Did you know that Wichita, and Kansas for that matter, used to be completely under water? In fact, the Cretaceous creatures that once ruled the world millions of years ago weren’t humans, but they included the giraffe-necked Styxosaurus, the 20-foot “bulldog” fish Xiphactinus, and the Tyrannosaurus rex of the ocean - the 40-foot super-predator Tylosaurus.
It’s hard to imagine, right? Well, imagine no more -- all these primordial watery beasts will be swimming around you in the Boeing Dome Theater and Planetarium's new show Sea Monsters: A Prehistoric Adventure.
Learn behind what we know about them, and grasp a vibrant vision of history’s grandest ocean creatures.
Under the Boeing Dome Theater and Planetarium's immersive, 360-degree, 60-foot tall screen, encounter reptiles that lived beneath the water 80 million years ago, when Kansas was at the bottom of a great inland sea that divided North America in two. Meet up with a family of Dolichorhynchops, or “Dollies,” as they traverse ancient waters populated with saber-toothed fish, prehistoric sharks and giant squid.
Then discover the absorbing science that tells us what happened to all these creatures. Paleontologists' painstaking piecing together of these monsters mysterious remnants provide clues that shed light on their deep secrets. How do we know what the creatures looked like? Do scientists need full skeletons to re-create these creatures? What did the dinosaurs eat? Who were their enemies? And why did they become extinct?
Sea Monsters is narrated by Tony Award-winning actor Liev Schreiber • Original score by Richard Evans, David Rhodes and Peter Gabriel
