IYA 2009

International Year of Astronomy 2009

“The Universe, Yours to Discover."

The universe takes center stage this year – that's because 400 years ago in 1609, Galileo Galilei became the first person to view the stars, planets and moons in the sky through a telescope.

To mark this momentous anniversary of this astronomical event, 2009 has been proclaimed the International Year of Astronomy (IYA2009) by the International Astronomical Union and UNESCO. IYA2009 will be a global celebration of astronomy and its contributions to society and culture.

At Exploration Place, IYA2009 is wrapping up – don’t miss the last of these exciting activities.
